Inspection, sampling and rework loops

A test or inspection sends some units back to an earlier step, or only a share of units is inspected.

Built in A field or setting does it directly.

How

On the product's operations:

  • An inspection is an ordinary operation with a machine and a time (a test rig, an inspection table). It uses capacity like any other step.
  • Rework: on the checking operation set rework_probability (0.15) and rework_from (the id of the earliest operation to repeat). A failed unit does every step from rework_from up to the check again, and may fail again.
  • Sampling: probability: 0.2 on an operation does it on only that share of units, the same units for the same seed.

Units that fail for good are scrapped instead: see Scrap, yield and OEE.

Check

Pumps are assembled, sealed and leak tested; 15% fail the test and are sealed and tested again, and one in five gets a visual check. Pumps arrive every 10 minutes on average. Every reworked pump goes back to the sealing station and through the test again, none is lost, and the run keeps up with demand.
