Modelling guide

Drying, curing and other waiting

A unit has to wait a fixed time between two steps and nothing is worked on it: paint or adhesive drying, curing, cooling, settling, a rest before testing.

Pattern Existing features combined; the result is exact.

How

Model the wait as an operation done by the thing that holds the unit while it waits: a rack, a stocker, a cooling conveyor.

1. Add an operation ("task": "Dry") between the two steps. 2. Give a machine that capability with the waiting time as its time (1800 for 30 minutes). 3. Give that machine positions = the places it has (20 for a 20-place rack), position_mode: "parallel" (any unit may leave when its time is up; use "conveyor" when units leave in the order they came, as in a cooling tunnel).

Machsizer then works out how many racks the takt needs: places needed = waiting time / takt (here 1800 / 120 = 15, so one 20-place rack).

Do not add a "wait after this step" field to the product: in Machsizer the product says what is done, the equipment says where and how long.

Check

The example coats a bracket (90 s), dries it 30 minutes on a 20-place rack and packs it (60 s) at a 120 s takt. Build layout buys one rack; the run makes 240 brackets in 8 h and each takes about 35 minutes through the factory.
